Annual Club Tennis Championships 2013 Sept 2nd - 15th

Entry forms available in Club and closing date is Thursday August 29th at 6pm.
This year it has been decided to hold an A and B event. However to encourage everyone to play and to ensure members get the maximum number of matches a Plate event will be held in each B event with an entry of 16 or more. Essentially this ensures a minimum of 2 matches in each event for all competitors. However to ensure this format is a success it is essential we get maximum participation. The Club championships are the highlight of our tennis year and a large entry would round off a wonderful summer in this our 125th anniversary year!!

All of these players / coaches were on the Team from Alpha that represented Ireland in The European Club Championships in France this year. Matt Gleave (Commonwealth Games Badminton Player – Fitness Instructor) did the circuit training.

Along with the 23 players from Munster/Connacht were another 30 parents and family who were enthralled by the warm hospitality, the top class organisation and the superb facilities. Trevor and his coaches were outstanding, providing the players the opportunity to be coached by and play with some of the biggest names in Irish badminton. The coaches also offered an insight into their own training schedules by going through demonstration routines and playing exhibition matches during the weekend.

After the event Trevor complemented all 50 players on giving 100% commitment to the training. They all had a well-deserved visit on Saturday to the Lisburn Swimming Leisureplex with huge slides and top-class pools providing endless entertainment. This was followed by an excellent BBQ and Disco. The parents were able to cross the road from Alpha B.C., go down Wallace Avenue, and into the centre of Lisburn to shop on the pedestrian Bow Street and in the large Bow Street Mall Shopping Centre (60 Stores).

We would like to thank Trevor Woods, all of the coaches and players, Suzy Armstrong and the Parent’s Committee, Club Chairman Brian Chambers and everyone else involved for their kind invitation and the fantastic programme they provided. We would also like to thank Lisburn City Council for sponsoring the event and congratulate Lisburn on being the European City of Sport for 2013.

Badminton Ireland High Performance Director Tommy Reidy comes to Ennis

Badminton Ireland HP Director Tom Reidy was at Club on Monday the 12th of August between 6-9pm. He gave an on court session for two hours to 20 players and then had a one hour parents meeting giving advice on what parents should be focusing on when supporting their children in the sport of badminton. This was a continuation along the theme of the Parents Forum at Marino Institute of Education last month which gave a great insight into how to support young players as they develop as people and mange their training and school work.
