This was the first tournament of the season and all players were happy to be back in competition. After a a slow start in the earlier rounds Karen and Lana kept their best performance for the final where they were convincing winners.

Karen comleted the double by taking the Mixed Title in style with her Dublin partner. Both girls were narrowly beaten in the semi final stages of the singles.

Al Bredin selected as U/15 National Badminton Coach

Al Bredin has been selected as joint U/15 National Coach with Naomi Darragh. This is only the second time we have produced a National Team Coach (Tom Eade was the coach of the Irish U/14 team in the 90's). The annual U/15 Quadrangular will be held on the 4th and 5th of May 2013 in Dublin. The Irish U/15 team will play England, Scotland and Wales. Best of luck Al.

The First of the Irish Ranking tournament's kicked of last weekend at Mount Pleasant and everyone in attandenance were treated to an excellent display of Badminton as players travelled from the four provinces of Ireland to compete for the opening title's of the year. Aisling Ryan did extremely well and was defeated narrowly in the Ladies Final.

The Irish U/19 starts this weekend.

Best of luck to Moya Ryan, Megan Bredin and Ciara Dwyer.

Junior Tennis Club Championships 2012

Photo of the finalists pictured with Tournament Sponsor Mimi Conroy, and Junior Tennis Captain Jason Comerford.

The Junior Tennis Club Championships this year took place from August 15th to 20th. The event featured 9 events ranging from U10 to U18 and featured 35 of the clubs Junior Members. The event was kindly sponsored by the Computer Store. This year, there was a change from the regular knockout style competion - with all events changed to round robin. This meant that all players saw plenty more tennis than in previous years, with a total of 83 matches completed over the course of the five days, and each player got at least two matches. The final results were as follows:

Girls U10 Singles: Winner: Rhona Kearney - Runner Up: Edith Kearney
Girls U12 Singles: Winner: Catriona Ni Riordain - Runner Up: Olivia Touhy
Girls U12 Doubles: Winners: Olivia Touhy & Emily Lester - Runners Up: Catriona Ni Riordain and Shauna Kearney
Boys U12 Singles: Winner Ronan Foley - Runner Up Ronan Lanigan
Girls U14 Singles: Winner: Karen McNamara - Runner Up Chris Kearney
Girls U14 Doubles: Winners Karen McNamara & Shauna Kearney - Runners Up Chris Kearney and Niamh O'Shea
Boys U14 Singles: Winner: Nathan D'Arcy Runner Up: Nick Lester
U14 Mixed Doubles:: Winners: Chris Kearney & Nathan D'Arcy - Runners Up Niamh O'Shea & Nick Lester
U18 Boys Singles: Winner: Ciaran O'Brien - Runner Up Michael McMahon

Munster Junior Inter-club Championship:
Ennis have entered a total of three teams into this years Munster Inter-club Championship which is taking place at the moment. The format of both the U12 and U14 competitions places all of the entered teams in into a preliminary round draw, with the winners of each fixture progressing to the Cup Competition, and the Runners Up forming a Plate Competition. This year, both our U12 and U14 teams were handed tough initial draws facing Bishopstown and Sundays Well respectively (both Cork). Both our teams gave spirited performances last weekend, but both Cork teams had enough class to edge past our players. Junior Co-ordinators Jason and Danny Comerford are hoping both teams build on their good performances when both teams face Whitechurch (also Cork) next weekend in the Plate Competition.

Traditionally the U18 event is a much smaller affair, and this year, with only six teams competing in total, the format of the competition is two round robins with the winners of each group to qualify. Ennis opened their account yesterday with a very closely fought encounter away to Limerick Lawn where we just lost out 5-4 in the best of 9 match fixture. Next weekend our team will host Sundays Well.
