Munster Winter Tennis League
Ennis Teams were in action again this weekend with Ennis Div 3 hosting Canon Hayes of Tipperary whilst Div 5 travelled to Cork to do battle with Bishopstown.
Div 3 team of Dave Keane Aidan Foley Margaret Flanagan and Maria Dolan managed a respectable score of 3/2 in favour of the Tipp side in what was always going to be a challenging draw. Despite this result however Ennis remain very much in contention at the halfway stage of the competition. With 4 teams competing for 2 positions Limerick Lawn are maintaining a narrow lead with the remaining 3 teams all carrying the same number of points!
The second round legs will be the deciding factor but at this stage having seen the competition Ennis are very much still in the running.
Div 5 meanwhile continued their winning streak with a superb away victory over bishopstown. The Team of Dave Quinn Chris Rudland Teresa Curtin and Elizabeth Tuohy managed a 3/1 win to leave them leading their group at the halfway stage.
Div 6 are also well ahead in their group going into the Christmas break and confidence is high that if they can keep up the pressure they should comfortably qualify for the knockout stages.
Congrats to all members for representing their club so well.

Irish Badminton Open
Dubliner Scott Evans won the men’s singles at the Carlton Irish Badminton Open today (Sun) at Baldoyle – a first home victory in this competition for almost forty years.
It was an emotional win for Evans, a double Olympian, who made the final in 2008 and has reached six other European circuit finals without ever taking a win.
In the women’s final, Chloe Magee, who had won the mixed doubles with Karen Bing in 2007, was making her first appearance in a singles final against 18-year-old Line Kjaersfeldt from Denmark. Magee struggled, trailing 10-18 in the opening game, but then underlining her fighting spirit when she pulled the score back to 20-20. She had a set point at 21-20, but failed to convert it. Kjaersfeldt then won the next two points to take the set 23-21.Magee played with more drive in the second set, winning 21-18, but her rival always had the edge in the tie-breaker, winning 21-18 and taking her first singles title at this level.

Div 6 continued their strong showing by defeating Tralee last Sunday to leave them currently top of their section.
Div 5 after one match are also top of their group with an away match against Bishopstown this Sunday.
Div 3 meanwhile scored a superb victory away to Sundays Well last weekend. A victory against arguably the provinces most prestigious club on their turf is no mean feat and leaves the Ennis team joint top after 2 matches with a home fixture this weekend against Tipp side Canon Hayes.
Fantastic to see our club being represented so well and great to see so much interest amongst members to play in these events.
