Junior Badminton Update

Munster Closed under 11 and under 15 Competitions

The above competitions were held in UL on Sunday March 8th. The club’s Junior Badminton committee was delighted that some of our Juniors entered and we congratulate them on their achievements.
Roisin Collins, Ruth Browne and Oisin Hayes entered the U11 competitions.
Alexandra Troy, Katie Browne, Cillian O’Riordain and Jack Browne represented the club in the U15 competitions.

Alexandra Troy took the U15 Girls singles title in an exciting final against her doubles partner Sarah Pingree with a scoreline of 30-25. She took the U15 mixed doubles title with her partner Brian O’Mahoney and the U15 Girls doubles title. Well done Alexandra.

Congratulations to Roisin Collins on her success at her first competition. Roisin won the plate competition of the U11 Division 2 girls singles, and she took a silver in the U11, Division 2 mixed doubles competition in a very closely contested final.

The committee congratulates all our members on their performances and we would particularly like to encourage our younger members and their parents to enter the upcoming Clare County competitions, where division 1 and division 2 competitions will be available. Division 2 competitions offer the ideal environment to use the skills developed in coaching in a less daunting environment. We would encourage our junior members to enter the many tournaments run by Munster Badminton and listed on the Badminton Ireland website in future. Competition really improves our match play and the U11 entrants benefited hugely from their experience in UL.

Congratulations Alexandra Troy
Last Friday, March 6th, the National Irish Team for the upcoming U13 international competition in Glasgow was announced. We were delighted that Alexandra Troy made the team and we are proud that she will join Club mate Moya Ryan in representing Ireland internationally this year.

InterPro Competition
The Junior Badminton Committee is delighted to congratulate the following members on making the Munster teams to compete at the Inter-provincial competitions on the weekend of March 14th and 15th in Dublin. Karen McNamara and Lana Browne will represent us on the U17 team (Moya Ryan has had to withdraw due to injury) and Ronan Foley has secured his place on the U15 team along with Alexandra Troy.

Well done and good luck to all!
