A number of Ennis Tennis Club teams competed in the always competitive, knockout, Munster Summer Cups last weekend.
We entered five teams over four divisions and with only one team getting home advantage we have only the Div 6 mixed team and Div 4 mens team left standing, a sign of the tough nature of competition outside the club.
The Div 4 mens team of David Quinn, Chris Rudland, Willie O'Doherty and Aidan Clancy travelled to Tralee to play at 5pm Sunday evening. They took the match to a super set with Willie and David teaming up to clinch the tie 6-4 after a titanic struggle.
The division 6 mixed team of Frank Jiruse, Declan Cusack, Aileen Daffy and Nicola Tassie took full advantage of their chance when home getting home advantage versus Crosshaven to win the tie 3-1.
The Division 6 mens team headed to the always tough Nenagh but lost after a brave fight, again, 3-1. The team consisted of Noel Gavin, Brian Moore, Robert Dunne and Vladimir Mahbena.
The Division 5 ladies team of Aoife Rice-Quinn, Angela O'Sullivan, Siobhan O'Donovan and Michelle Cawley had an away day in Whitechurch in glorious weather. Whitechurch had two exceptional ladies on the day and won 3-1.
The clubs division 3 mixed team played in Nenagh last week before our former captain damaged his ankle at home last week. The team consisting of the aforementioned Aidan Foley, David Quinn, Teresa Curtain and Helen Gallery were not disgraced in losing 3-1.
Well played all.
