Now that we are at the knock out stages, the competition is getting tougher and a formidable Mallow team arrived in Ennis last Sunday to take on the team of David Quinn Chris Rudland Liz Tuohy and Teresa Curtin.
After doubles round it was all square and following two thrilling mixed matches the score stood at 2-2. The decider is a one tie break mixed set. Chris and Teresa took on this task and at the end of some fantastic tennis pipped their Cork opponents in a thrilling 7-6 scoreline .
Many congratulations to our team who now progress to a quarter final encounter against old rivals Nenagh on March 10 in Nenagh.
Hopefully we can get some supporters to travel to cheer on our team!!
Well done again

Munster Winter League With group stages over we see our Division 5&6 Teams through to the knock out stages. Div 5 take on Mallow in a home fixture this Sunday at 12pm. If any members around please come and support our team....
Div 6 meanwhile have a tough away fixture on March 10 to Cork based Dromahane.... This small 2 court club are not to be underestimated boasting some fine players (this being the home club of our Tennis Captain!!!) No doubt Sean Carroll and his team and are training hard to meet this challenge and continue with their winning ways! Good luck to both teams.
Div 3 were unfortunate to meet a vastly improved Canon Hayes last Sunday and despite some incredibly close matched ( incl 2 third set tie breakers)were unable to secure the required points to progress to the knock out stages.
The enthusiasm by members to play for their club had been fantastic and I would hope to encourage some of our newer members to try out for the Summer Leagues. I would hope to enter teams in div 3/4/5&6.... And as the summer comps are all knockouts there is less commitment required so it should be easier to field teams. I will be putting up a notice shortly looking for expressions of interest.
Galway TripThe planned trip to Galway tennis club is going ahead on march 9. Numbers are steady but we could do with a few more ladies for balance!! C'mon it promises to be a great day!
Spring LeagueDon't forget to put your name down for the spring league set to kick off in March. Details on notice board. Entry fee only €5.

Munster Winter League Success
Congratulations to our Division 5 and 6 Teams who have both qualified for the knockout stages of the Winter League. Both teams were in action last Sunday with Div 5 taking on Bishopstown and Div 6 taking on Tralee both home fixtures.
Division 5 continued their domination with a 4-0 victory ensuring top spot group qualification. Having only dropped 4 games during the group stages this strong team of Dave Quinn Elizabeth Tuohy Chris Rudland and Teresa Curtin must surely be confident facing into the knockout stages.
Division 6 meanwhile were already assured of qualification and their match v Tralee was simply to decide on group placings. Ennis needed at least 3 points to attain top spot. Unfortunately a much improved Tralee took the ladies doubles and in a cruel twist our lads lost in a heartbreaking two tie break sets 6/7 6/7.. The remaining matches were academic at this stage and the home side were content with an overall 2nd place finishing in their group. Congrats to Sean Carroll Ray Cummins Michelle Cawley and Aileen Daffy for continuing to fly the flag for Ennis.
Division 3 meanwhile having started this league with no aspirations find themselves achingly close to qualifiaction with 3 teams vying for the second qualifying spot with only one point separtating them facing into the final showdown.
Next Sunday sees our Div 3 team travel to Tipperary to take on Canon Hayes. Ennis need to get at least 3 of the 5 points on offer to be on with a chance......a very doable task although our Tipperary opponents are chasing the 4 points they need! In addition our fate will also depend on how well Sundays Well do v Limerick Lawn. With Limerick already qualified we need our neighbours to comprehensively beat their cork opponents. We have it on good authority that Limerick have no intention of allowing a Cork Victory! Here's Hoping!! Good Luck to Div 3.
In fact congrats to all our Teams and especially our team Captains who have the difficult task of selecting players. Unfortunately with only 4 spots on each team it is not always an easy task. Thanks to everyone who took part and especially for the way in which they hosted visiting teams. Many of these teams had never been to our club before and all were incredibly impressed with both our facilities and our hospitality.
Yes it really is that time again to dust off the racquets and find those tennis shoes again!
The Spring League will be up and running shortly. The exact format is yet to be decided but a sign up sheet will be on the board in the next couple of days. Please get as many people to sign up so we can kick start our 2013 Tennis season
This event is to be resurrected most probably in an event to be run off over a couple of nights. Further details available shortly.
Court Booking Procedures
This continues to be a contencious issue with certain members continuing to flout the booking rules. It is the intention of the Tennis Committee to revisit this issue again this year. Attempts last year to revise procedures were met with staunch opposition. However improvements must be made to ensure that all courts are utilised in the most efficient manner possible for the benefit of all Memebers. Any and all suggestions gratefully received.
